As a side projection, I have inherited a 1950 Cub (Series Number 118751) and information technology needs some tender loving care. We took the oil bathroom air cleaner off and it appeared no oil was ever put in information technology. The screen was completely rusted out. It appears at that place is an internal sleeve that holds the screen but it doesn't want to slide out. So I questioned whether or not it is supposed to come out or not.

Can anyone lend me some advice as to replacing the internal screen??

Cistron has the correct idea. Replace the whole air cleaner. Your Cub probably got left out in the weather condition
for a period of time that caused information technology to rust due to h2o sitting in the filter.
For what it'southward worth, oil bath air filters do a TERRIBLE chore of filtering dust and dirt out of air.
I've never seen an oil bathroom cleaner rated higher up 95% filtering adequacy while most dry out pleated newspaper
filters are 99% and college. Well-nigh the but advantage oil bath air cleaners accept is they're cheaper to
service, pregnant, change the oil. Still doesn't brand them meliorate at removing dust & dirt.
Not a fan of oil wetted cotton gauze filters either, the brands like K&Due north, and others. I ran oil
assay on my 7.3L POWERSTROKE diesel fuel, mostly because there's three places antifreeze could become into the
engine oil. Near every 10,000-12,000 miles I'd pull a sample during an oil change. I ran a K&Due north drop-in
filter for nigh 60,000-lxx,000 miles after I started running oil analysis at 100,000 miles. With the K&N
filter the silicon results were three-iv-5 parts per 1000000. With the pleated newspaper Ford OEM filter it has
ever been ZERO or I. Silicon is Dirt. I pulled the Yard&N to wash it after the 60,000-70,000 miles and
saw THOUSANDS of points of low-cal thru the cotton gauze. I went directly to boondocks and got a Motorcraft
pleated paper filter and burned the K&N.

Give thanks you lot both for your replies they were very helpful. I am certain every bit I become farther into this project they'll be more questions.

From the results of your tests, it sounds like there should be a pleated filter out there in the aftermarket world that would piece of work a lot better.

A paper one is probably better - but the oil bath is good enough - especially on an engine similar the flat head 4 in the cub. Many other parts volition wear out before the engine has taken in enough dirt to vesture out the pistons or clog the carb. You'll find a lot of salvage parts for sale on ebay for a farmall/international cubs. A higher RMP engine that takes in double the air could easily surpass the filtering capabilities of the tiny oil bath cleaner on the cub - but in its stock course information technology plenty skillful and has proven information technology with decades of service.
